Kia Soul Ev Recalls

The Kia Soul EV has 6 recalls spanning 2015 to 2023, with the most serious being a 2023 model year issue where side curtain airbags can inflate spontaneously without a crash, creating a risk of injury to occupants.

The 2023 airbag concern aside, most of the recall activity centers on the 2015 model year. Those vehicles have a high-voltage battery that can internally short circuit while driving and start a fire. There is also a transmission issue on 2015 models where shifting into Park before the vehicle has fully stopped can damage the transmission, after which the vehicle can roll even with the shifter in the Park position if the parking brake is not applied. The battery and transmission concerns each had earlier repair attempts that did not fully resolve the problem, and later recalls superseded those prior repairs. The 2019 model year has a brake system recall where an abnormal sensor signal to the integrated electronic brake system can cause a sudden drop in braking performance, extending stopping distances, though a warning light does activate on the instrument cluster when this occurs.
