Summary
The Lamborghini Gallardo has 9 recalls covering the 2004–2014 production run, with the most serious being a power steering fluid leak on 2004–2006 models where escaping fluid can contact hot engine or exhaust components and start a fire, and also leave the driver with heavy, unassisted steering.
On 2006 models, the bolted connections on the front and rear suspension wishbones can loosen over time or under hard loading, reducing handling stability and raising the risk of losing control. That same model year has a separate issue where the engine can be started without pressing the clutch pedal while the transmission is in gear, causing the car to lurch forward or backward and potentially strike a bystander.
The 2007–2009 models fitted with carbon ceramic brake discs have stainless steel rotor-securing screws that can corrode in salty conditions and fail, reducing braking effectiveness.
The final production years, 2011–2014, share an engine control unit software problem where fault codes are erased each time the ignition is switched off. The next time the car starts, warning lights that would normally signal an engine or fuel injection malfunction do not illuminate, leaving the driver unaware that a safety-relevant fault is present. The 2011 and 2013 model years were also subject to incorrectly applied software updates that produced the same result, suppressing warning lights that would otherwise alert the driver to active faults.
