Summary
The Lamborghini Murcielago has 4 recalls spanning the 2002–2010 production run, with the most serious being two separate steering defects on 2002 models where loose or improperly fitted steering column connections can cause the driver to lose steering control.
On 2002 vehicles, one issue involves a joint screw between the steering wheel and column that may not have been torqued to specification, which can allow the steering wheel to move without turning the front wheels. A related 2002 defect involves the lower steering column shaft coupling sitting too loosely on the steering rack's input shaft, allowing the coupling to pull free entirely and leave the driver with no steering input. Moving to later production, 2007–2008 models, including both coupe and Roadster variants, have a fuel tank where the internal welds holding the fuel pump support can break loose, letting fuel leak out and creating a fire risk near any ignition source. On 2006–2010 coupes and Roadsters equipped with carbon ceramic brake rotors, the stainless steel screws that secure the rotors to the hubs can corrode and fail after salt exposure, allowing rotor movement that reduces braking effectiveness.
