Summary
The Land Rover LR3 has 6 recalls covering the 2005-2006 model years, with the most serious being a fuel tank breather pipe defect on 2005 models where a cracked and detached internal fitting allows fuel to leak, creating a fire risk in the presence of an ignition source.
The same 2005 fuel system issue can also cause fuel odor in the cabin, engine hesitation, misfires, stalling, rough running, difficulty starting, and a check engine light. On 2005 models, a clockspring wiring issue in the steering column can fracture the driver's airbag wiring, which may cause the airbag to deploy only partially or not at all in a crash where it would otherwise be needed; an airbag warning light on the instrument cluster is typically the first sign of the problem. Also on 2005 models, the ignition key can be removed after a delay even when the transmission is not in park, allowing the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly. The 2006 model year has its own concern: a rear left second-row seat belt buckle mounting that can fail to fully retain the buckle, leaving that passenger without reliable restraint in a crash.
