The Lexus SC has 5 recalls covering the entire 2002–2010 production run, all involving the same defect: the passenger-side frontal airbag inflator can rupture in a crash and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

All five recalls address this Takata airbag inflator issue across the full model run, with the filings divided by year range and, in some cases, by geography. The 2008–2010 model years are covered by separate campaigns, including one specifically targeting vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity regions such as Florida, the Gulf Coast, Hawaii, and U.S. territories, where moisture accelerates inflator degradation. The 2002–2007 model years are similarly covered, with overlapping filings that include a geography-specific campaign for the same high-humidity areas alongside broader nationwide coverage. The 2002–2005 years are addressed by an additional filing that also covers replacement inflators installed as service parts, meaning even vehicles that received an earlier repair may be affected if the replacement part was itself part of the recalled supply.
