3 recalls across 2 model years
The Lincoln Mark VI has 3 recalls covering the 1980-1982 model years, with the most serious being a wiring defect on 1980 models with electrically heated rear windows where a feed wire pinched under a mounting bolt can short-circuit and overheat, starting a fire inside the vehicle.
The other two recalls each affect a single year and are electrical in nature. On 1980 models, the brake light switch can become contaminated with oil and fail to illuminate the brake lights when the pedal is pressed; on vehicles equipped with optional speed control, the same switch also handles disengagement of the cruise system, so a failed switch can prevent the cruise control from canceling. On 1982 models equipped with the optional automatic headlamp dimmer, the relay contacts deteriorate prematurely and can cause either the high beams or low beams to stop working entirely.
