3 recalls across 3 model years
The Lincoln Mark VII has 3 recalls covering the 1984-1986 production run, with the most serious being a brake system fault on 1986 models where the ignition lock cylinder can stick and fail to return fully to the "on" position after starting, cutting power to the brake supply motor and reducing both rear brake pressure and front brake assist.
The 1985 model year has a related but distinct brake issue: a relay contact inside the brake system can weld itself closed, causing the brake pump motor to run without stopping. The motor eventually overheats and fails, again leaving the vehicle with reduced hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes and less power assist to the front brakes. On the earliest production year, 1984 models have a compliance issue involving tire selection labeling and the locking system that does not meet Canadian safety standards.
