Summary
The Lotus Elise has 6 recalls covering the 2006–2011 model years, with the most serious being loose rear hub bolts on 2008 models that can allow a wheel hub to come free from the suspension, causing sudden loss of control.
The 2011 model year has two turn signal-related recalls. On certain examples, an incorrect turn signal module causes the LED turn signals to flash at an erratic frequency when the hazard lights are activated. A separate 2011 filing addresses non-compliance with federal lighting standards, where the driver receives no visual warning when a turn signal lamp stops working correctly, removing a cue that other drivers may not be seeing the intended signal.
The oil cooler line defect spans the 2006, 2007, and 2008 model years. On these vehicles, the oil cooler lines can fail or detach from their fittings, sending oil onto the tires or brakes and reducing stability, or spraying oil across hot engine and exhaust components where it can ignite a fire. Oil reaching the road surface also creates a hazard for other vehicles.
