Lotus Esprit Recalls

The Lotus Esprit has 10 recalls spanning the 1977–1998 production run, with the most serious being cracked rear wheels on 1997–1998 models, where the 6-spoke monobloc rear wheels can develop internal cracks that are not visible to the eye, weakening the wheel to the point of potential loss of control.

The wheel defect affects the final two model years of production: 1997 and 1998 examples equipped with those 6-spoke monobloc rear wheels can crack on the inside of the spokes in a way that offers no visual warning before structural failure occurs. The remaining recalls on late-production 1995 and 1997 models involve missing airbag warning labels on the sun visors, a compliance issue with no associated mechanical defect. Going back to the earliest production, 1977 models have a fuel system recall where incorrect rubber tubing at the fuel filter connection joint can develop a leak, creating a fire risk.
