The Mazda 929 has 3 recalls covering the 1988–1995 production run, with the most serious being an ignition switch defect on 1993–1995 models where grease inside the switch can become conductive, cause the switch to overheat, and start a fire.
The 1988 model year has two recalls. The front seatbelt release buttons, made of ABS plastic, can crack and shed fragments into the buckle assembly, causing the buckle to fail to latch, latch without actually engaging, or refuse to release in a crash or sudden stop. There is also a compliance issue on certain 1988 vehicles where the evaporative emissions system does not meet Canadian standards, though no safety risk is associated with that filing.
