9 recalls across 6 model years
The Mazda B-Series Truck has 9 recalls covering the entire 2004–2009 production run, all involving frontal airbag inflators that can rupture or explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, with the most urgent concern on 2006 models where both driver and passenger inflators carry a do-not-drive advisory until repaired.
All nine recalls trace back to the same class of defect: Takata-type frontal airbag inflators that can build excessive internal pressure and burst, turning the inflator housing into a source of metal shrapnel directed at the driver and front passenger. The recalls are organized by model year, airbag position, and geographic zone, but the underlying danger is the same across the entire 2004–2009 range.
On 2007–2009 models, both the driver and passenger inflators are covered. The driver-side inflator can degrade after prolonged exposure to heat and humidity, eventually exploding on deployment. The passenger-side inflator carries the same rupture risk and was recalled in geographic phases, covering high-humidity regions first and extending through the remaining states in subsequent campaigns.
The 2006 model year has the most urgent standing: both the driver and passenger inflators were flagged with explicit do-not-drive advisories, meaning the risk was considered serious enough that these trucks should not be operated until the inflators are replaced.
On 2004–2006 models, both airbag positions are affected by inflator rupture on deployment. There is also a follow-on recall specific to 2004–2006 trucks that received replacement passenger inflators under an earlier campaign: those replacement parts may have been installed incorrectly, which can prevent the airbag from inflating properly in a crash.
