Summary
The Mazda Mazda5 has 6 recalls covering 2006 through 2010 model years, the most serious being a 2006-only exhaust system defect where heat can build up around the main silencer at high engine speeds and start a fire in the vehicle. The remaining 2006 concerns involve the sliding door latch. In cold-weather states, water can collect inside the latch mechanism, freeze, and prevent the door from closing and latching properly, which can allow the sliding door to swing open while driving. This issue is limited to vehicles registered in northern and mountain-region states where freezing temperatures are common.
On 2009-2010 models, a fuel pump connector can retain moisture from the assembly process, causing the connector pin to corrode and eventually break. When that pin fails, the fuel pump stops working, the engine stalls, and the vehicle cannot be restarted.
