6 recalls across 10 model years
The Mazda MazdaSpeed3 has 6 recalls spanning the 2007–2013 production run, with the most serious being a 2007 model year engine mount bolt that can loosen under hard acceleration, pull out, and allow the driveshaft to detach, leaving the vehicle without propulsion. A second 2007-only recall involves Mazda-branded all-weather floor mats sold as accessories that can slide forward and trap the accelerator pedal, preventing the engine from decelerating when the driver lifts off the gas and extending stopping distances.
The 2010–2011 model years have a seat height adjustment mechanism where the lifter links can break or separate from the seat frame, causing the seat to tilt and making it difficult for the driver to maintain a proper seating position. On 2010–2013 models, the liftgate gas struts can lose their ability to hold the hatch open, allowing it to drop unexpectedly and strike anyone standing nearby. The 2010 model year alone has a separate liftgate issue where the outer tube of the rear stay can corrode and break off over time.
Going back to 2008–2009 production, a wiper motor ground terminal that may have been bent during assembly can develop increasing electrical resistance over time until the wipers stop working entirely, reducing visibility in rain or snow.
