5 recalls across 2 model years
The Mazda MazdaSpeed6 has 5 recalls covering the full 2006–2007 production run, with the most serious being a Takata airbag defect where both the driver and passenger frontal airbag inflators can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, risking serious injury or death.
The airbag issue affects all 2006–2007 models. Moisture intrusion over time can destabilize the driver-side inflator, and the passenger-side inflator carries the same rupture risk. A prior repair attempt on the passenger side used replacement inflators of the same design, meaning vehicles that received that earlier fix remain affected and need a further remedy.
Both model years also have a fuel system concern: the mounting ring on the fuel pump can crack and allow fuel to leak, creating a fire risk if the fuel contacts an ignition source. The 2006 model year has an additional, separately filed version of this same fuel pump mounting ring issue.
