3 recalls across 2 model years
The Mazda MX-3 has 3 recalls covering the 1992–1994 production run, the most serious being a fire risk on 1992 V6-equipped models where water and road salt can enter the alternator, create an electrical short, and cause an engine compartment fire.
The two remaining recalls both involve front coil spring corrosion in regions with heavy road salt use. On 1994 models registered in certain northeastern and midwestern US states, the front coil springs can corrode and fracture, raising the risk of a crash. On 1992 models in high-salt areas, the same corrosion process can cause a spring to break near its base and puncture the adjacent tire while driving.
