15 recalls across 4 model years
The Mercedes-Benz A 220 has 15 recalls covering 2019 through 2022, with the most serious being a front axle carrier that can corrode and fail on 2019-2020 models, causing the driver to lose steering control.
On 2019 models, a brake pedal plate with a faulty weld can bend under use, reducing the driver's ability to apply the brakes. Also on 2019-2020 models, a fuel injector can leak fuel near hot engine or exhaust components, creating a fire risk. The driver's front airbag module on 2019-2020 vehicles may not have been properly bolted down, which can cause it to misfire or fail to deploy in a crash. There are three separate rearview camera issues on 2019-2021 models: a software bug on 2019 vehicles can delay the image from appearing when reversing, a different software fault on 2019-2021 vehicles can cause the display to go black or reboot, and a third software error on 2019-2020 vehicles can prevent the camera image from appearing at all. On 2019-2020 models, the air conditioning drain hose may be improperly installed, allowing water into the footwells and center tunnel where it can damage electrical components, potentially triggering airbag malfunctions, a no-start condition, or a forced reduction in engine power while driving.
The 2021 model year has a child seat anchor issue where the right-side ISOFIX bar may be missing from the right rear seat bracket, preventing a child seat from being properly secured. The emergency call system, which contacts emergency services after a crash, can fail to function on 2019-2021 models, or on 2019-2020 models may send responders to the wrong location. Headlights on 2022 models may be incorrectly aimed from the factory, reducing visibility for oncoming drivers, and on 2019-2020 models the LED headlights may have been misadjusted during a prior repair with the same result. The 2019-2020 models may also be missing a rear brake pad wear inspection gauge, and the owner's manual may not explain how to use it, making it harder to detect worn pads before braking performance suffers. Finally, some 2019 vehicles were delivered without tire pressure labels, leaving owners without the correct inflation specifications.
