6 recalls across 2 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG E43 has 6 recalls covering the 2017–2018 model years, with the most serious being a starting current limiter on 2017 models that can overheat and melt surrounding components, creating a fire risk in the engine compartment.
On the 2017 model year, the electric power steering control unit can have poorly bonded contact pins that lose connection, cutting off power steering assist and making the car significantly harder to steer. Also on 2017 vehicles, the front passenger seat sensor can be incorrectly installed, causing the system to misread an adult as a child seat and deactivate the front passenger airbag in a crash. Two headlight issues affect 2017 models as well: the low-beam aim may be set too low from the factory, leaving the road ahead underlit, and the horizontal adjustment screws may lack proper sealing caps, meaning the aim can be altered after the fact with the same result.
Spanning both the 2017 and 2018 model years, the automatic crash notification system can fail to transmit the correct vehicle location after a collision, which can send emergency responders to the wrong place.
