18 recalls across 8 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 has 18 recalls spanning 2017 through 2025, with the most serious recent issue being a front short-range radar sensor circuit board failure on 2025 models that disables automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and active cruise control.
On 2025 models there is also an electronic stability control software issue where the warning light can display incorrectly during a system failure, leaving the driver without accurate information about a critical safety system. The 2022-2023 4x4² special edition trim carries a separate concern: the rear axle differential housing can crack, leaking oil onto the road and potentially causing sudden loss of drive power or rear wheel control. Those same 2022-2023 model years also have a fuel pump that can shut down without warning, cutting drive power while moving. The air conditioning system on 2022-2023 vehicles may have been filled with the wrong refrigerant, which can leak and raise the risk of fire in a crash.
Going back to 2019-2021 production, the rear door latches can fail to fully engage while appearing closed, allowing a door to swing open while driving. A prior repair attempt on the same latch issue did not fully resolve the problem, and a follow-up recall covers 2019-2022 vehicles that received a replacement latch during that earlier service. The front axle wiring harness on 2019-2021 models can chafe against an oil cooler and lose insulation, knocking out anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control. A separate electronic stability control deactivation issue also affects 2019-2020 models.
The 2021 model year has a cluster of occupant protection issues: seatbelt pretensioners and airbags may not perform correctly in a crash, rear seatbelt retractors can deactivate early and fail to secure a child seat properly, and side impact sensor connectors can work loose and delay airbag and seatbelt activation in a side collision. That side sensor connector issue also extends to 2020 models.
The 2019 model year has two fire-related concerns: fuel injector components can leak fuel near hot engine parts, and the turbocharger oil feed line can also leak onto hot exhaust components. Both conditions raise fire risk while the engine is running. The 2017-2021 model years have an emergency call system that can fail to connect to emergency services or transmit the wrong location after a crash.
