27 recalls across 10 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC43 has 27 recalls spanning 2016 through 2026, with the most serious recent issue being a 2024 model year structural defect where the engine's integral carrier can fail at improper welds, causing loss of vehicle control.
On 2026 models, the infotainment control unit can reset while driving and blank out the instrument panel display, removing the speedometer and warning lights from view. The 2023 model year has a fuel pump that can shut down without warning, cutting drive power while in motion. On 2021 models, the headlight electrical connectors may not be watertight, allowing moisture to cause headlight failure, and the front seatbelt pretensioners and airbags may not deploy correctly in a crash. The 2020-2022 model years have headlights that can aim too high and create glare for oncoming drivers, and 2020 models have a rearview camera that can fail to display an image when backing up.
Going back to the 2019-2021 range, the backup camera software can cause the display to go black or reboot on startup, and the emergency call system can fail to reach responders or send them to the wrong location. The 2020 model year also has a left-rear seatback latch that may not hold against cargo loads in a crash, and the 2020 power steering wiring harness can be damaged in a way that causes either a loss of steering assist or an electrical short that can start a fire.
The 2018 model year carries a driver airbag inflator made with defective steel that can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin. On 2017-2018 models, the driver airbag can inadvertently deploy without a crash, the rear outboard seatbelt latch plates can retract into the door panel and become inaccessible, and the front seatbelt pretensioners may not fire in a crash. The 2017-2019 model years have a roof front panel that can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, and 2017-2018 models have panoramic sunroof plastic panels that can detach while driving. The 2018-2019 passenger seat occupant classification sensor can incorrectly show the front passenger airbag as active when it will not deploy.
On 2016-2017 models, the low-beam headlights may be misadjusted and fail to adequately illuminate the road ahead. The 2017 model year has an additional front seatbelt pretensioner concern where the tensioners may not engage properly in a crash. The 2018 model year has front turn signals on LED-equipped vehicles that can display pink or violet instead of amber, making them harder for other drivers to recognize.
