21 recalls across 4 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC63 has 21 recalls covering 2018–2021 model years, with the most serious being a damaged power steering wiring harness on 2020 vehicles that can cause sudden loss of steering assist or short-circuit and start an engine fire.
The 2020 and 2021 model years carry several additional concerns. On 2021 vehicles, the fuel pump can shut down without warning, cutting drive power while the vehicle is in motion. The 2020 model year has an electronic stability control software error that causes the system to react incorrectly to driving situations, reducing its ability to prevent skids and loss of control. Also on 2020 models, side crash sensor connectors can work loose, delaying airbag and seatbelt activation in a side impact, and a software fault can cause the rearview camera to go black while backing up. A separate software issue affects the multimedia display on 2020–2021 vehicles, where the screen can remain black or reboot on startup, also disabling the backup camera view. The 2020 model year also has a left-rear seatback latch that may not hold under load in a crash, allowing cargo to intrude into the passenger area.
The 2018–2020 model years share a starter power supply cable that can chafe against the starter housing, short-circuit, and either stall the engine or start a fire. On 2019 models specifically, the front roof panel between the windshield and panoramic sunroof can detach and become a road hazard if it was not properly bonded during a prior repair. The 2019 model year also has a fault where the seatbelt pretensioners and the pre-crash safety system may not activate in a crash. On 2018–2019 vehicles, the passenger airbag deployment can be delayed for unbelted front occupants in a crash, and the passenger seat sensor can incorrectly show the front airbag as active when it will not deploy, leaving an occupant unaware of the risk.
The 2018 model year has two related rear seatbelt issues where the latch plates for the outboard rear seats can retract into the door panel trim, making it impossible for rear passengers to buckle in. There is also a 2018 recall where the front roof panel adhesive can deteriorate and allow the panel to separate from the vehicle at speed.
Across 2018–2021 models, the automatic emergency call system has recalls covering two separate failure modes: in one, the system can report an incorrect vehicle location to emergency responders after a crash; in another, the system can become entirely disabled, preventing any emergency call from being placed. The 2020 model year has an additional variant of the location-reporting fault. On 2021 vehicles, a headlight electrical connector that is not watertight can cause headlight failure, reducing visibility for the driver and oncoming traffic. The 2019 model year has a sun visor airbag warning label printed in a foreign language, which may prevent occupants from understanding the risks of placing a child in the front seat.
