7 recalls across 4 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S has 7 recalls covering 2016 through 2019 model years, with the most serious being a 2018 model year issue where seat belts can bind in their guidance loops, creating slack that reduces restraint effectiveness in a crash.
On the 2018 model year, vehicles equipped with AMG Performance Seats have a passenger seat occupancy sensor that can misread the seat's occupant, causing the front passenger airbag to either fire when it shouldn't or stay dormant when it should deploy. The 2016 model year has a software fault affecting the airbag control system that can prevent airbags from deploying as intended in a crash. Going back to early 2016 production, a small group of vehicles built between June and late July 2015 have a carbon-fiber driveshaft where the adhesive bond at the rear flange can fail, causing sudden deceleration while driving or leaving the vehicle unable to move.
The 2016 and 2017 model years share an emergency call system software fault where the system can transmit an incorrect date, time, and vehicle location to emergency responders after a crash, potentially delaying their arrival. The 2017 through 2019 model years have a related but separate emergency call system issue where the system can fail to connect to the emergency services center at all, again risking delayed response after a collision.
