5 recalls across 2 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG SL55 has 5 recalls covering the 2022-2023 model years, with the most serious being an unsecured wiring harness on 2022-2023 models where the starter and alternator wiring can short circuit, cutting drive power or overheating to the point of causing a fire.
The 2022-2023 model years are also affected by a fuel pump that can shut down without warning, cutting engine power while driving. Two separate filings cover this same fuel pump issue, but the real-world result is the same: the engine loses power and the vehicle becomes difficult to control in traffic.
On 2023 models, incorrectly manufactured 80-amp fuses can fail and cause a sudden loss of drive power or knock out critical systems including the airbags and instrument cluster.
The 2022 model year has one additional issue specific to vehicles equipped with a heated leather steering wheel: a software problem can disable the hands-off detection feature, which in turn prevents the driver assistance system from issuing steering wheel grab warnings or triggering the automatic emergency stop and emergency call functions if the driver becomes incapacitated.
