Mercedes-Benz C400 Recalls

The Mercedes-Benz C400 has 8 recalls, all affecting the 2015 model year, with the most serious being a steering shaft defect on 4Matic models where the sliding shaft can disengage from the steering coupling, causing steering backlash and, in the worst case, complete loss of steering control.

A separate steering concern on 2015 4Matic sedans involves the electric power steering software, which can cause the power assist to cut out unexpectedly, requiring significantly more effort to steer, particularly at low speeds. Two recalls address the front roof panel: the adhesive bonding the panel between the windshield and panoramic sunroof can deteriorate and allow the panel to detach while driving, and a follow-up recall covers vehicles where a prior repair of that same panel was not bonded correctly, leaving the same detachment risk. On 2015 4Matic models, the fuel delivery module can be improperly secured to the fuel tank, allowing the locking plate to loosen and fuel to leak, raising the risk of a fire.

The driver airbag on some 2015 vehicles can deploy without warning, raising the risk of injury and loss of vehicle control. The emergency call system on 2015 models has a software fault that can report an incorrect date, time, and vehicle location to emergency responders, potentially delaying their arrival. A headlight compliance issue on certain 2015 models means the low-beam aim adjustment can result in poorly lit roads or excessive glare directed at oncoming drivers.
