15 recalls across 4 model years
The Mercedes-Benz CLA250 has 15 recalls covering the 2014–2017 model years, with the most serious being an inadvertent driver airbag deployment across all four model years that can injure the driver and cause a crash without any collision occurring.
The 2017 model year carries several additional serious concerns. The steering shaft universal joint bearing can work loose over time and separate, leaving the driver with no steering control. A separate issue affects the passenger-side airbag and pelvis airbag inflators on 2017 models, where the initiator can fail to ignite in a crash, leaving front-seat occupants without that protection. There is also a software fault on 2016 models where the airbag control system may not deploy airbags correctly in a crash.
The passenger seat occupant classification sensor was miscalibrated on 2015–2017 models, which can prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying as intended in a crash. On 2015–2017 vehicles, the starter assembly's current limiter can overheat and melt surrounding components, raising the risk of an engine compartment fire. A camshaft weld defect on certain 2015 models can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly.
The front roof panel, located between the windshield and panoramic sunroof, can detach from the body on 2014–2017 models and become a road hazard. This issue has two separate origins: original bonding that may have deteriorated, and a prior repair that may not have been performed correctly, both with the same result of the panel coming free at speed.
Going back to the 2014 model year, a vacuum line fitting connecting to the brake booster can crack on gasoline-engine models, requiring significantly more pedal force to slow the vehicle. A narrow group of 2014 vehicles also has a fuse installation issue that can cause loss of electrical contact in the occupant classification system.
Across the 2014–2017 span, the emergency call system has multiple software-related recalls that can cause it to report an incorrect vehicle location or fail to connect to emergency services after a crash, potentially delaying first responders.
