Mercedes-Benz G550 Recalls

The Mercedes-Benz G550 has 9 recalls covering 2010–2018 model years, with the most serious being a steering coupling defect on 2013–2016 models where a loose connection wears over time and can cause complete loss of steering control.

On 2016–2017 models equipped with Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control, a stability program malfunction can prevent the engine from reducing power even when the brakes are applied, requiring the driver to shift to neutral or apply significantly more brake force to stop the vehicle. The 2017 model year has a separate brake concern: the vacuum hose feeding the brake booster can collapse, reducing power assist and requiring noticeably harder pedal effort to slow the vehicle. Also on 2016 models, the inner door handle cable can break if the door is difficult to open after a crash, potentially trapping an occupant inside.

The 2014 model year has a software recall where incorrect programming loaded during a prior service visit can cause loss of drive power, reduced exterior lighting, or failure of stability and traction control systems. On 2011 models, a trim molding strip near the front passenger airbag can come loose during deployment and become a projectile inside the cabin.

Two separate recalls affect the emergency call system. On 2017–2018 models, the eCall system can fail to transmit the correct vehicle location to emergency responders after a crash. On 2013–2016 models, a software fault causes the system's internal clock to drift, which can also result in an inaccurate location being sent. The 2010 model year has a turn signal compliance recall where the signal lamp's visibility to other drivers can degrade over time.
