Mercedes-Benz G63 Recalls

The Mercedes-Benz G63 has 9 recalls covering 2013 through 2020 model years, with the most serious being a steering coupling defect on 2013-2016 vehicles where the connection can wear and cause a complete loss of steering control.

On 2016-2017 models, a malfunction in the electronic stability program can prevent the engine from reducing power when the adaptive cruise control system is active, even when the brakes are applied, requiring the driver to shift to neutral to slow the vehicle and significantly extending stopping distances. The 2019 model year carries three separate concerns: a software fault can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly; front door wiring harnesses can chafe during normal door operation and disable the side airbags, automatic door unlocking in a crash, or the vehicle's location signal; and the seatbelt pretensioners along with the pre-crash tensioning system can fail to activate in a collision, reducing occupant protection. Also on 2019 models, the airbag system can fail to deploy as intended in a crash.

The 2019-2020 model years have a rear door child safety lock whose embossed symbol can indicate the wrong lock status, potentially allowing a child to open the door from inside while the vehicle is moving. On 2016 models, the interior door release cable can snap if the door is difficult to open after a crash, trapping an occupant inside.

Going back to 2013-2016 production, a software fault in the emergency call system can cause the eCall unit to transmit an incorrect date, time, and vehicle location to emergency responders, potentially delaying help after a crash. The 2013 model year also has a separate software issue that can prevent airbags from deploying as intended.
