Mercedes-Benz Gl550 Recalls

The Mercedes-Benz GL550 has 9 recalls covering 2010 through 2017, with the most serious being a front suspension oil leak on 2013-2016 models that can ignite if it contacts a heat source, creating a fire risk.

On 2016-2017 models, water can enter the electric power steering control unit and deactivate steering assist, making the vehicle significantly harder to steer. Those same years also have a passenger seat sensor that can misread the front passenger and suppress or reduce airbag deployment in a crash. The 2015 model year has a separate concern: axle bolts on the front and rear drive axle carriers may not have been assembled correctly, and if the remaining bolts fracture, the vehicle can become unstable and difficult to control.

Going back to 2013-2016 models, a software fault in the emergency call system can report an incorrect date, time, and vehicle location to emergency responders, potentially delaying help after a crash. The 2014 model year has a narrow production window where the second-row seat bottom may not fold down far enough to allow proper use of the child seat lower anchors, leaving a child restraint inadequately secured.

On 2010-2012 models, moisture can accumulate inside the brake booster housing and cause corrosion that reduces braking performance or causes brake failure entirely. Those same years are also subject to the Takata airbag inflator recall, where the driver's frontal airbag inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin during deployment.
