16 recalls across 3 model years
The Mercedes-Benz GLC300 has 16 recalls covering the 2016-2017 model years, with the most serious being an overheating starting current limiter on 2016-2017 vehicles that can melt surrounding components and start a fire in the engine compartment.
On the safety systems side, 2016-2017 models have two separate issues with the front roof panel adhesive bonding: the panel can detach from the vehicle and become a road hazard for following traffic. One of these applies to vehicles that received a prior repair, where the bonding was not completed correctly during that service. The 2017 model year has panoramic sunroof plastic panels that can also separate and fall onto the road. Separately within the 2016-2017 range, rear outboard seat belt latch plates can retract into the interior door paneling, leaving rear passengers unable to buckle in before a crash.
On the airbag and restraint side, 2016-2017 vehicles have a recall where the driver airbag can deploy without warning, raising the risk of injury and loss of control. On 2016 models only, incorrectly routed steering column wiring can trigger an unintended airbag deployment or cause the engine to stall. A separate software issue on 2016 models can prevent airbags from deploying correctly in a crash. The 2017 model year has front seatbelt pretensioners that may not tighten properly in a crash, reducing how well the belt holds the occupant.
The 2016 model year has an electronic stability control unit that may have been damaged before installation, which can cause the system to activate unexpectedly and alter the vehicle's path, and can also prevent the electronic parking brake from working. A small number of 2017 vehicles have an electric power steering control unit with a faulty weld that can cause the power steering assist to cut out, making the steering noticeably heavier and harder to manage.
The 2016-2017 model years also have misadjusted low-beam headlights that may not illuminate the road adequately at night. There are three recalls related to the emergency call system: on 2016 models, a software fault can cause the system to report an incorrect time and location to emergency responders; on 2016-2017 models, the eCall system can fail to dispatch responders to the correct location; and on 2017 models, the eCall system can become disabled entirely, preventing contact with emergency services after a crash.
