The Mercury Bobcat has 1 recall affecting the 1976 model year, where an oversized retaining bead on the accelerator cable fitting can cause the bushing to dislodge during full-throttle acceleration, potentially leaving the driver unable to reduce engine power or control vehicle speed. When the bushing dislodges, the accelerator cable can lose its secure anchor at the firewall, disrupting the mechanical connection between the gas pedal and the engine and making it difficult to back off throttle input in a normal way.
