3 recalls across 8 model years
The MINI Cooper S Convertible has 3 recalls covering 2005 through 2012, with the most serious being a fire risk on 2007-2012 models where a circuit board in the turbocharger system can overheat and ignite while the vehicle is in use.
The turbocharger circuit board issue spans two overlapping year ranges: 2009-2011 model years are covered by one campaign, and 2011-2012 by another, with prior repair attempts not fully resolving the problem across the full production run. In both cases, the board can smolder or overheat and start a fire in the engine compartment.
Going back to earlier production, 2005-2008 models have a recall involving the passenger seat sensor mat. When the mat malfunctions, it can fail to detect an occupied seat, causing the front passenger airbag to stay inactive in a crash and leaving that occupant without airbag protection.
