Summary
The Nissan NV has 6 recalls covering 2011–2017 model years, with the most serious being a driver's airbag inflator defect on 2011–2017 models where the inflator can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
On the powertrain side, 2012–2013 NV vehicles equipped with a steering column-mounted shift lever have a gear selector lock clip that can be installed incorrectly and work loose over time. When this happens, the shift indicator can show Park while the transmission is actually in a different gear, allowing the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly. The 2013 model year has a related but distinct shifter issue: a change in the anti-rust treatment applied during assembly caused a chemical reaction in the foam inside the shifter mechanism, which can cause that foam to stick to the lever lock and prevent it from latching into the Park position.
On the occupant protection side, 2014 NV passenger van models have a seat belt retractor concern in the second, third, and fourth row removable seats. The bolts securing those retractors may not have been tightened to the required torque at the factory, or may be missing entirely, which can allow the retractor to pull away from the seat structure in a crash and leave occupants without effective belt restraint.
