4 recalls across 1 model year
The Nissan Van has 4 recalls, all affecting the 1990 model year, with the most serious being a power steering hose that can leak fluid onto the exhaust manifold, which runs hot enough to ignite the fluid and start an engine compartment fire.
The remaining three recalls all center on engine compartment fire risk as well, stemming from the cooling system. The radiator and coolant hoses can deteriorate at their clamp connections, spraying coolant onto surrounding components; if the coolant level drops as a result, temperature and pressure rise rapidly and can trigger a fire. A follow-up recall later found that engine compartment fires continued to occur on vehicles that had already received the cooling system repair, attributed to errors during that prior repair. A fourth recall addresses a broader concern about unspecified engine compartment components that can fail from heat exposure and cause a fire.
