The 1999 model year, the last year of production, has a recall for ignition coil and control module assemblies that can cause the check engine light to illuminate along with engine misfires and other driveability problems. On 1993 models, a brake line can contact the transmission mounting bracket or frame rail, wear through over time, leak fluid, and reduce braking effectiveness. The 1992 model year has a transmission that can stay in reverse even when the shift indicator reads neutral, creating a risk of unexpected rearward movement.

Going further back, 1991 models have front door shoulder belt guide loops that may not properly restrain front seat occupants in a crash. The 1990 model year has two separate issues: front shoulder belt webbing can separate at the upper guide loops without warning, leaving front occupants unrestrained in a crash, and vehicles registered in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island can develop severe corrosion at the engine cradle mounts, potentially causing mount failure and loss of steering or handling stability. The 1989 model year, on vehicles with electronic comfort control air conditioning, can have a display that fails to respond after the car has been parked with the ignition off, preventing the defroster fan from operating when windshield clearing is needed. The 1988 model year has steel wheels that can develop cracks in the mounting surface and, in severe cases, separate from the vehicle entirely, affecting steering and braking.
