OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE Recalls

The Oldsmobile Intrigue has 5 recalls covering the 1998-2000 model years, with the most serious being a missing heater hose clip on 1999 models that can let the hose wear through against the oxygen sensor, leak coolant onto the exhaust manifold, and start an engine compartment fire. On 1998 models, a defect in the ignition switch can allow the key to rotate out of the run position if the keyring carries extra weight or the vehicle hits a bump. When that happens, the engine shuts off and both power steering and power brakes are lost simultaneously, leaving the driver with greatly reduced control. Also on 1998 models, the rear seat shoulder belts can develop a twist in the webbing that jams the retractor, making that belt completely unusable by a rear passenger. There is also a compliance recall covering 1998 models whose owner manuals lack required information about the headlamp aiming device. The 2000 model year has a separate compliance issue on vehicles equipped with the 3.5L engine, where incorrect emission control labels were applied at the factory.
