5 recalls across 4 model years
The Pontiac 6000 has 5 recalls across the 1984–1987 production run, with the most serious being a corroded anti-lock brake relay on 1986 STE models that can disable the rear brakes entirely and strip power assist from the front brakes, dramatically increasing stopping distances. A second recall affecting 1986 STE models addresses the same ABS relay system, where corrosion can also cause the anti-lock function to drop out without warning.
The 1987 model year has a windshield bonding recall where poor adhesion between the glass and its mount can allow the windshield to separate from the body in a crash, reducing structural support and increasing the risk of ejection. On 1985 models, a throttle linkage retaining clip can press against the throttle body casting and bind the accelerator open, holding engine speed constant even after the driver lifts off the pedal. There is also a 1985 exhaust emissions compliance issue. Going back to 1984, station wagon models have a wiring error in the remote tailgate release that allows the tailgate to be unlocked and swing open while the vehicle is moving.
