3 recalls across 2 model years
The Pontiac Aztek has 3 recalls covering 2001 and 2004 model years, with the most serious being a fuel tank weld defect on 2004 models where the inlet valve can separate from the tank, leak fuel onto the ground, and start a fire if an ignition source is nearby.
The 2004 model year also has a contaminated ignition relay that creates high electrical resistance, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly and sometimes preventing an immediate restart, which raises the risk of a crash. On 2001 AWD models only, water and road salt can work past the rear ball joint seal in cold weather and rough road conditions, degrading the joint over time.
