Summary
The Pontiac G3 Wave has 4 recalls spanning the 2005-2009 production run, with the most serious being a 2009 model year steering defect where the intermediate steering shaft can detach from the steering gear, leaving the driver with no steering control. Also on 2009 models, brake fluid that lacks corrosion inhibitors can cause the anti-lock brake module to corrode internally, leading to a longer pedal travel, reduced braking, rear wheel lockup, or vehicle instability. On 2005 models, the daytime running light module can overheat and melt, creating a fire risk. There is also a separate but related 2005 issue where the same daytime running light module can fail in ways that cause the lights to flicker, stay on after the vehicle is shut off, or stop working entirely, with the instrument panel indicator going dark.
