Summary
The Pontiac G6 has 6 recalls covering the 2005–2007 model years, with the most serious being a 2007-only airbag passenger sensing system that can miscalibrate and fire the right front airbag when a child is seated there, the opposite of its intended behavior.
The 2005 model year carries the most recalls. On 2005 models with a 4-speed automatic transmission, the shift cable can fracture without warning, leaving the driver unable to change gears, remove the ignition key, or move the transmission into Park, which creates a rollaway risk. Also on 2005 models, intermittent electrical faults can cause the brake lights to glow when the pedal is not pressed, or go dark when it is, and that same fault can disrupt anti-lock brakes and stability control. A related but separate issue on 2005 models involves corrosion forming inside the body control module's wiring connector, producing the same brake light misbehavior. The 2005 and 2006 model years share an electric power steering recall where assist can drop away without warning while driving; when that happens, steering the vehicle requires noticeably more physical effort, and a dashboard message and chime alert the driver.
