3 recalls across 3 model years
The Pontiac Trans Am has 3 recalls covering the 1982 through 1984 model years, with the most serious being a 1984-only defect where the Hi-Tech Turbo wheels contain excessive porosity in the hub area, which can cause a wheel to separate from the vehicle while driving.
On 1983 models, the front seat shoulder belt may fail to retract because a plastic spring cover can come loose and allow the retractor spring to unwind, leaving the belt slack and unable to restrain an occupant in a crash. On 1982 models with crossfire fuel injection engines, the fuel tank ventilator valve can produce a persistent whistle during venting, and if the filler cap is removed while the tank is three-quarters full, pressurized fuel can be forced out of the filler neck and create a fire risk.
