3 recalls across 3 model years
The Pontiac Trans Am has 3 recalls covering the 1982 through 1984 model years, with the most serious being a wheel defect on 1984 models where excessive porosity in the hub area of the Hi-Tech Turbo wheels can cause a wheel to separate from the vehicle while driving.
On 1983 models, the front seat shoulder belt may fail to retract into its retractor after the plastic spring cover works loose and lets the retractor spring unwind. A belt stuck in this condition may not restrain an occupant properly in a crash, raising the risk of injury. On 1982 models equipped with crossfire fuel injection, a fuel tank ventilator valve can produce a persistent whistle during tank venting, and if the filler cap is removed at that moment with the tank near three-quarters full, fuel can be pushed out of the filler neck and create a fire risk.
