5 recalls across 2 model years
The Pontiac Wave has 5 recalls covering the 2004 and 2007 model years, with the most serious being a fuel system defect on 2007 models with the 1.6L engine where a frontal crash can rupture a fuel line and, due to a simultaneous fuse block short circuit, keep the fuel pump running and spill fuel onto the ground near an ignition source, creating a fire risk.
The 2004 model year has a separate but significant throttle body icing issue that generated multiple recall campaigns. In temperatures near or below -20 degrees Celsius, ice can form in the throttle body and cause the throttle to stick open, either after a cold soak or while the vehicle is already moving. A stuck-open throttle while driving can lead to a crash without any prior warning. Prior repair attempts under earlier campaigns did not fully resolve this for all affected vehicles, which is why additional campaigns were issued for the same underlying problem. The remaining recall on 2007 models is a compliance matter involving an incorrectly formatted date of manufacture label, which carries no safety risk and was corrected at the plant.
