4 recalls across 3 model years
The Renault Alliance has 4 recalls covering the 1983–1987 production run, with the most serious being a heater core rupture on 1985 models where an undersized coolant system pressure cap can allow pressure to build during engine overheating until the heater core bursts, spraying hot coolant and steam near the driver's legs.
The 1983 model year has two separate issues. The heater core on those vehicles has an end cap that can fail as the material deteriorates, releasing hot coolant and steam near the driver's right foot. Separately on 1983 models, the manual steering gear can corrode from heavy road salt exposure and eventually seize, leaving the driver unable to steer. On 1987 GTA models with the 2.0-litre engine, the oxygen sensor can fail and cause the vehicle to exceed exhaust emissions limits.
