The Royal Enfield Himalayan has 3 recalls covering 2017-2021 model years, with the most serious being brake caliper corrosion on all 2017-2021 examples where road salt can eat into the calipers and cause a partial or complete loss of braking. The second recall also involves caliper corrosion but is specific to 2017 models, where the calipers can seize and drag rather than release cleanly. Dragging brakes overheat, which reduces stopping power and can produce noise, burning smells, and sluggish acceleration. On 2019 models, the instrument cluster lacks an anti-lock brake malfunction warning light, meaning the anti-lock system can switch off due to a fault without alerting the rider, removing a layer of protection in hard-braking situations.
