11 recalls across 2 model years
The Saab 9-2X has 11 recalls covering the 2005–2006 model years, with the most serious being a passenger-side front airbag inflator defect on both model years where the inflator can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The airbag issue is the dominant concern across the entire production run of this model. On 2005–2006 vehicles, the passenger front airbag inflator can build excessive internal pressure when triggered in a crash, causing it to burst and scatter metal fragments toward occupants. Humidity, heat, and temperature cycling over time degrade the inflator propellant and increase this risk. Prior repair attempts on some 2005 vehicles did not fully resolve the problem, and a subsequent recall was issued to provide a final fix for those vehicles.
The one non-airbag recall affects 2005 models only: the front lower control arms can corrode from road salt and moisture exposure, thinning the steel until the arm fractures near where it attaches to the chassis. A broken control arm removes the front suspension's ability to locate the wheel properly, which can cause sudden loss of steering and vehicle control.
