Summary
The Saab 9-2X has 4 recalls covering the 2005-2006 production run, with the most serious being a passenger-side front airbag inflator defect on both model years where the inflator can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin.
The airbag issue spans all production years and has a layered history. On 2005 models, the passenger front airbag inflator can develop excessive internal pressure when it fires, potentially rupturing and sending fragments toward occupants, or damaging the module enough that the airbag fails to deploy at all. Some 2005 vehicles that had the inflator replaced under an earlier repair attempt are covered by a separate remedy, as that prior fix did not fully resolve the problem. On 2006 models, the same underlying cause applies: long-term exposure to heat and humidity can degrade the inflator propellant, causing the bag to deploy with more force than intended. The suspension recall affects 2005 models only, where the front lower control arms can corrode from road salt and moisture exposure over time, eventually thinning and fracturing near the forward mounting point on the chassis, which can cause sudden loss of front suspension control.
