SAAB 9-5 Recalls

The Saab 9-5 has 4 recalls spanning the 1999–2011 production run, with the most serious affecting 2006–2009 models where the driver's frontal airbag inflator can rupture during deployment, sending metal fragments into the cabin and striking the driver or other occupants. The 2002 model year has a separate safety concern: the steering knuckle castings can break while driving, causing loss of steering control. On 1999 models, rust and debris can accumulate on wheel hub mating surfaces when swapping between alloy and steel wheels for seasonal use; if the surfaces aren't cleaned before re-torquing, the wheel bolts can fracture under uneven force and a wheel can separate from the vehicle. The 2000 model year has a compliance issue where the child tether anchor hooks in the luggage compartment are missing their required identification markings.
