Summary
The Saab 99 has 6 recalls covering the 1975 through 1978 model years, with the most serious being a brake drawrod pivot pin that can disengage on 1975 models, causing a complete loss of braking. The 1976 model year has two recalls: rear axle movement can wear through the return fuel line and allow fuel to leak while the pump runs, creating a fire risk underneath the car, and door sill plates installed improperly can catch and cut the front seatbelts, weakening them before a crash. On 1978 models, two separate issues apply. On non-Turbo variants, ice can build up inside the throttle housing in extreme cold and prevent the throttle from fully closing when the driver lifts off the accelerator. There is also a front exhaust pipe bracket attachment at the rear differential that can allow transmission oil to seep out gradually, and if the level drops far enough, the transmission can lock up. The 1975 model year also has a throttle housing icing issue, where temperatures below 20 degrees Fahrenheit can cause ice to form and interfere with throttle operation.
