The Scion tC has 4 recalls spanning 2010–2016, with the most serious being a rear suspension defect on certain 2015 models equipped with the optional Release Series 9 accessory coil springs, where the rear suspension arms can detach and cause a loss of control.
On 2010 models equipped with the optional Toyota Racing Development brake kit, the stainless steel braided front brake hoses can fatigue and leak fluid, extending stopping distances. On 2015–2016 models, the load carrying capacity label may not account for the weight of installed accessories, which can lead to the vehicle being overloaded without the owner realizing it. The same labeling issue affects certain 2016 models distributed through Southeast Toyota dealers.
