Subaru B9 Tribeca Recalls

The Subaru B9 Tribeca has 6 recalls, all affecting the 2012 model year, with the most serious being a passenger-side frontal airbag inflator that can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death to any occupant.

All five airbag recalls describe the same underlying defect: the passenger-side frontal airbag inflator can rupture rather than inflate normally, turning the module into a source of high-speed metal fragments directed at the front passenger, driver, and others in the vehicle. Some of these recalls are scoped to vehicles sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as prolonged exposure to heat and humidity degrades the inflator over time.

The remaining recall covers a hood latch defect, also on 2012 models, where the hood's primary and secondary latch systems can fail and allow the hood to fly open while driving, blocking the driver's forward view entirely.
