The Subaru B9 Tribeca has 6 recalls, all affecting the 2012 model year, with the most serious being a defective passenger-side frontal airbag inflator that can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death to the front passenger, driver, or other occupants. The airbag inflator issue is the subject of multiple filings, some of which specifically target vehicles registered in high-humidity states and territories including Alabama, California, Florida, Hawaii, Texas, and several U.S. territories, where heat and moisture accelerate the risk of inflator rupture. The remaining recall covers a hood latch that can fail to hold the hood closed while driving, causing it to fly open and block the driver's view of the road.
