Summary
The Subaru DL has 3 recalls spanning 1982 to 1985, with the most serious being a frayed accelerator cable on 1982 models equipped with cruise control that can cause the throttle to stick open and leave the driver unable to slow the vehicle.
The 1985 model year, in vehicles operated in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland, has a rear suspension inner arm that can corrode from ongoing road salt exposure and compromise steering control. On 1980 models, excluding the BRAT, the steering rack's protective boot can stiffen and slip off its retaining groove in extreme cold, exposing the rack shaft to road salt corrosion that gradually makes steering stiff and can eventually cause the rack to seize entirely.
