1977 SUBARU GL Recalls — Canada & USA

The 1977 Subaru GL has 2 recalls of equal severity, one involving a throttle that can stick wide open in cold weather and another where the fuel tank can split open under prolonged sun exposure. In freezing temperatures below about -20 degrees Fahrenheit, moisture from inside the engine can be drawn into the carburetor and freeze around the throttle shaft, holding the throttle open and making it difficult or impossible to reduce engine power. On the fuel system side, small vents in the evaporative emissions system may be the wrong size, causing pressure to build inside the fuel tank during long periods in direct sunlight until the tank cracks and releases fuel.
