4 recalls across 3 model years
The Suzuki DR-Z400S has 4 recalls spanning 2018 and 2025-2026, with the most serious affecting 2025-2026 models where loose brake fluid reservoir cap screws can allow fluid to leak, reducing braking force and extending stopping distances.
The 2025 model year has a related rear brake master cylinder reservoir issue where the cap screws can work loose and leak fluid, again reducing braking ability. Both the 2025-2026 and 2025-only brake fluid concerns describe the same real-world result: a rider pressing the brake lever or pedal gets less stopping power than expected.
Going back to the 2018 model year, the rear brake stop lamp switch can fail to illuminate the brake light when the rear brake is applied, leaving riders behind unaware that the motorcycle is slowing. This was filed as two separate recalls covering the same 2018 defect, where resin inside the switch can bond to the internal contacts and prevent the light from activating.
